Who it's for
- SaaS teams tracking customer loyalty over time
- Founders benchmarking post-product-market-fit
- Customer success teams spotting at-risk accounts
- Any business comparing themselves against industry NPS benchmarks
Why this template works
- ·Standard scale means your number is comparable across companies and quarters.
- ·One question, 11 options — rich signal, almost no friction.
- ·Detractors (0–6), passives (7–8), promoters (9–10) each need a different follow-up.
Tips for running it well
- 1
Send within 30–60 days of a meaningful interaction, not immediately after onboarding.
- 2
Pair the score with a follow-up comment field — the 'why' is worth more than the number.
- 3
Route 9–10 scorers to a public review ask; route 0–6 to a CSM conversation.
Ways to customise it
Segment by plan or tenure and compare NPS across segments.
Run it quarterly rather than continuously to avoid survey fatigue.
Swap the standard question for industry-specific wording if 'recommend to a friend' doesn't fit (e.g. B2B, regulated products).
Questions
How is NPS calculated?
%promoters (scored 9–10) minus %detractors (scored 0–6). Passives (7–8) don't count. Score ranges from -100 to +100.
What's a 'good' NPS?
Highly industry-dependent. Anything above 30 is solid for most B2B SaaS; above 50 is excellent. Compare to your own trend more than to external benchmarks.
How often should I run NPS?
Quarterly is the common cadence. Monthly creates fatigue and doesn't move fast enough to matter; annual is too infrequent to catch regressions.
